Math Team

Captain, Lexington High School Math Team, 2025 to present. Lead organizer, Girls' Lexington Math Tournament, 2025 to present.

I have been captain of the Lexington High School Math Team since 2025. In 2026 we were 8th at the American Regions Mathematics League (ARML), and at the Harvard-MIT Mathematics Tournament in February we were 11th overall and 8th in Guts. We won the New England Association of Math Leagues in 2025 and 2026 and the Brown University Math Olympiad in 2026, and at Girls in Math at Yale in 2026 we won Guts, Team, and Sweepstakes.

I qualified for the USA Mathematical Olympiad in 2025 and 2026 and for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination every year from 2023 to 2026. I earned a Silver Award in the 2024-2025 USA Mathematical Talent Search with 74 of 75 points, and in 2026 I received the Math Prize for Girls Student Leadership Award Grant, which goes to ten students nationally each year.

The team has run the Lexington Math Tournament since 2013. It brings more than 130 middle schoolers to our school twice a year to solve problems our team writes.

In 2025 I founded Girls' LMT for middle school students who identify as female or non-binary. The contest is free and online, and about 40 students compete each year. I ran the first one in 2025 and the second on June 6, 2026.

Conferences

Poster presenter, International Congress of Mathematicians and MAA MathFest, 2026.

On July 29, 2026, I presented a poster at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Philadelphia, in Section 3, Number Theory, titled “Performance of Classical Factorization Algorithms for Structured Integers.” The work comes from my sole-author paper, mentored by Prof. Sandy Zabell of Northwestern, and the abstract is in the ICM 2026 Book of Abstracts. My slot was 4 to 5 PM in Hall E.

On August 7, 2026, I brought the same work to MAA MathFest in Boston as Poster 96.

In December 2025 I presented with my reading group at the MIT PRIMES Reading Groups miniconference, on curvature on Riemannian manifolds.

Linguistics and languages

Founder and president, Lexington High School Linguistics Club, 2025 to present. President, LHS French Club, Japanese Club, and Chinese Culture Club, 2024 to present.

I founded the Lexington High School Linguistics Club in 2025. I design the workshops on phonology, morphology, and computational linguistics, and I build the NACLO preparation for students who are new to computational linguistics. In 2026 I won a bronze medal in the Invitational round of the North American Computational Linguistics Open Competition (NACLO), placing 34th nationally.

I learned Japanese on my own and passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test at N1, the highest level, in tenth grade. I also hold the Massachusetts Seal of Biliteracy in Mandarin and English, awarded in 2026, and won a Gold Award on the National French Contest in 2024.

Across the three language clubs I lead, we run cultural events and fundraisers for Doctors Without Borders. I teach Japanese to more than 60 students a year at Lexington High School, and the Chinese Culture Club, with 100+ members, puts on celebrations and shows for Chinese festivals.

STEAM outreach

Leader, Youth STEAM Initiative, 2023 to present. Boston Public Schools AI education ambassador.

I joined the Youth STEAM Initiative, a Lexington nonprofit, in ninth grade. I taught one session for about thirty teammates on making videos in Canva, which I had learned from Instagram reels the week before. I worked on LexLux, our animated projection mapping on the Depot building and the Lexington Historical Society, covered in a letter in the Lexington Observer on January 15, 2025. I also volunteered with the initiative at the Cary Library Chirp Gala.

I led a team of four in YSI to run six Saturday sessions for about twenty-five members on Google Colab. By the last session, every member had a working agent of their own.

On August 27, 2026 I presented with Prof. Wei Ding and another YSI leader at the BPS Summer Institute on AI literacy and what our initiative does.

On July 31, 2026, at AI in One Day, part of the Paul English Applied AI Institute summer camp at UMass Boston, I helped build FocusBerry, which won Most Creative AI Activity. It became the paper “Let's Focus with AI,” published in July 2026.

Outside the initiative, I organize the Lexington Informatics Tournament with LexMACS, a student-run programming contest with more than 1,100 participants worldwide each year, where I handle logistics and sponsor outreach. On my own I learned the USA AI Olympiad material and won a silver medal in 2026.

Writing

Writer, LHS Musket, 2025 to present.

I have written for the Musket, the Lexington High School newspaper, since 2025. I coauthored “Swinging to New York: LHS Jazz Ensemble Selected as Finalists at the Charles Mingus Festival” (February 4, 2026), “What is it like to be on the LHS Math Team?” (May 1, 2026), and “A Look Into the Pit Orchestra for the Guys and Dolls Musical” (June 16, 2026).

In 2026 the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards gave me two Regional Silver Keys and an Honorable Mention in Poetry, and an Honorable Mention in Journalism. I was also shortlisted for the Junior Prize of the John Locke Institute Global Essay Prize.

The Girls' Angle Bulletin published “The Twin Fives That Pollard's Rho Can't Pull Apart” in its August/September 2026 issue, a companion to my factorization paper, about how the mistakes and revisions shaped it.

Community service

Volunteer, Rosie's Place, 2025 to present. Member, Lexington chapter of the National Honor Society, 2025 to present.

Since 2025 I have volunteered at Rosie's Place, a women's shelter in Boston, preparing and serving meals. One of the women who came in for a meal told me she lived alone and was afraid of falling with no one there. That conversation is where HaloTrack started, a necklace that detects a fall and sends the wearer's location to a caregiver.

I joined the Lexington chapter of the National Honor Society in 2025, where my service includes co-organizing the Lexington Math Tournament and taking part in multicultural events and volunteering. I received the President's Volunteer Service Gold Award in 2024 and 2025. In my first fall at Lexington High School, on September 17, 2023, I volunteered with the Chinese American Association of Lexington.

History

I competed in Academic WorldQuest for the Lexington High School History Club and placed second in New England. For National History Day I built a website, Blowin' the Revolution, on how Louis Armstrong's jazz changed America from 1922 to 1971. In 2026 it won a Massachusetts History Day State Special Award, the Handel and Haydn Society Outstanding Project in Music History, 1 of 195, and Massachusetts History Day featured it on its site.

Teaching

Tutor, Expii, 2025.

In 2025 I tutored for Expii through Po-Shen Loh's LIVE program, after training under Professor Loh. I taught Algebra 1 and 2 and Geometry to 100+ underserved students, over more than 65 hours.

Summers

I spent the summers of 2025 and 2026 at PROMYS at Boston University. In 2025 I coauthored “Pick's Formula and Euler's Theorem” with my lab group and presented it. In 2026 I worked with my research lab group on complete nonambiguous trees with Prof. Paul Gunnells of UMass Amherst, where I wrote the abelian sandpile section of our paper; one of its sequences is now OEIS A398579. I also took the Spectral Theorem course that summer.

In 2025 I attended SUMaC, the Stanford University Mathematics Camp, Program I. We studied abstract algebra and number theory, and I presented on the RSA cryptosystem. In 2024 I attended the G2 Math Program, working collaboratively on olympiad-level problems. In 2023 I went to Yau Tsinghua Mathcamp, where I studied analysis, number theory, and linear algebra and presented on sums of squares. In 2024 I went to PROMYS Pathways, where I audited the PROMYS number theory lectures. After the camp I am an active member of the PROMYS Math Circle.

I also took part in the Harvard Medical School MEDscience clinical program in 2025, where I practiced vital signs, blood draws, and cadaver analysis and treated patient simulators.

Music

I have played piano for thirteen years and yangqin for ten years, and I compose. I play percussion with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, the LHS Wind Ensemble, and the LHS Jazz Big Band, and yangqin with the Boston Chinese Musicians Association Orchestra. See the Music page for more details.
